Minecraft X-Ray on Nintendo Switch
Switch does not let you sideload custom resource packs. The only safe way to use X-Ray on Switch is the Realms method: apply the pack on a phone or Windows PC, host the world as a Realm, and join that Realm from your Switch. No homebrew, no bans.
Full install flow
1. Download the pack on a supported device
Use an iPhone, Android phone, iPad, Android tablet, or Windows 10/11 PC that is signed into the same Microsoft account as your Switch. Tap/double-click the .mcpack and import it into Minecraft.
2. Subscribe to (or reuse) a Realm
In Minecraft, create a new Realm or open one you already pay for. Pick a world and apply the X-Ray resource pack to it in world settings.
3. Confirm Switch Online + Microsoft sign-in
On your Switch, sign into Minecraft with the same Microsoft account. You will also need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to join any Realm.
4. Join the Realm from Switch
Open Minecraft on Switch, tap Play → Realms, and join the Realm. Minecraft downloads the X-Ray pack automatically on first join. After a short load, your world will render with transparent stone, deepslate, and netherrack.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sideload the X-Ray .mcpack on Nintendo Switch directly?
No. The Switch version of Minecraft does not expose a file import flow. You cannot download a .mcpack from a browser and open it in Switch Minecraft. The only sanctioned route is Realms.
Does the Realms workaround actually work for Switch?
Yes. Apply the pack to a world on a Windows or mobile device, host that world as a Realm, and join the Realm from your Switch with the same Microsoft account. Switch Minecraft downloads the pack on first join.
Do I need Nintendo Switch Online to join a Minecraft Realm?
Yes. Any online Minecraft play on Switch — Realms included — requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
Will using X-Ray on Switch disable achievements?
No. Bedrock resource packs do not disable achievements on Switch or any other platform. Only behavior packs and experimental features disable them.
Is there a homebrew or hack that installs X-Ray directly on Switch?
Homebrew Switches exist but installing resource packs that way voids your warranty, risks a console ban from Nintendo, and does not actually give you anything more than the Realms method does. Skip it — use Realms.
